Chenie Tagaod shines in front of family

Playing in front of her family made Chenie Tagaod's standout performance even more meaningful.

With her father and brother making the trip from Tagum City, Davao, Tagaod rose to the occasion, leading Akari to a hard-fought 27-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-22 victory over Choco Mucho in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League On Tour Showdown on Saturday.

The 24-year-old outside hitter spearheaded the Chargers with 19 points, tallying 11 attacks, six blocks, and two service aces. She delivered despite battling cramps that began to bother her in the third set.

Tagaod refused to let the injury slow her down, continuing to contribute on both ends of the floor before sealing the win with the match-clinching point. Moments after scoring, she crumpled to the court and had to be helped off by teammates and staff.

The former Far Eastern University standout admitted that the presence of her family provided an extra source of motivation throughout the match.

"Siyempre, inspired ako ngayon kasi nakita ko 'yung papa ko tsaka 'yung kapatid ko. So, sana naging proud sila."

Beyond helping Akari secure the victory, Tagaod said she was proud to represent athletes from the Visayas and Mindanao, hoping her performance would encourage more aspiring volleyball players from the region to chase their dreams.

"Siyempre, sobrang happy ako na napakita ko sa mga Bisaya kung ano'ng merong talent ang isang Bisaya rin.”

She also shared a message for young players hoping to one day reach the professional ranks.

“Sa lahat ng mga nagdi-dream na mag-PVL, huwag n'yo lang kalimutan lahat ng sacrifices at tiyaga n'yo. Magbubunga at magbubunga rin 'yan,” Tagaod added.
